How to Share a Printer in Windows XP

Creating a home network in Windows XP allows you to share a single printer with multiple computers. You can save time and money by sharing one printer with all the computers on your Windows home network. Sharing your printer requires only a few clicks and works with wireless and LAN networks equally well.Follow the given steps to share a printer in windows XP.

Step1: Log on to your computer and connect your printer.

Step2:  From the “Start” button, select “Printers and Faxes.” If you do not see “Printers and Faxes”, open “Control Panel” and then double-click “Printers and Faxes.”

Step3: Right-click on the desired printer icon on the “Printers and Faxes” window and highlight “Sharing.”

Step4:  Click the ‘Share this printer’ button in the “My Printer Properties” window and press “OK.”

Step5:  Log on to Windows XP on a remote computer from which you want to print.

Step6: After that select “Printers and Faxes.” from the Start button.

Step7:  Open the “File” menu and select “Add Printer.”

Step8: Click on the option to “Browse for a printer” and follow the “Next” button.

Step9:  Click the plus sign next to any name “Microsoft Windows Network” to expand the group. Select your printer and press “Next”.

Step10:  Click on the “Yes” button in the pop-up window and click the “Finish” button to close the wizard and complete the process.

Step 1: First download 'Windows Live Family Safety filter'. from the Windows Live website. Make sure that you do not download from third party websites.

Step 2: After installing Windows Live Family Safety filter, open it from 'Start->Windows Live->Windows Live Family Safety'.

Step 3: A dialog box will open up, now select 'Add or manage family members on this computer'. Add the children accounts, which need to be monitored by the filter and click 'Close' when you are finished.

Step 4: Now open Internet explorer and go to the Family Safety web site and select the child name that you want to set up and monitor and click the 'Edit settings' link.

Step 5: Now click on the 'Web Filtering' option from left column and select the 'Turn on web filtering' radio button. You can set up here level of filtering from permissive to restrictive using the moving slider to the desired level.

Step 6: You can also select the 'Web filtering lists' option (this is optional choice) and enable a filter list of specific web sites to which you want to restrict access.Finally click on the 'Save' button to retain the settings.

So next time when your child will use the internet, he or she will have access only to those websites that you set up permissions for. Why my Dell computer starts rebooting

Sometimes your dell computer keeps rebooting after the windows logo or it reboot continuously after 2 or 3 minutes. In some cases when you want to open any program then your computer automatically start rebooting. This problem may occur because of  two things like-
  • software or new hardware or an update has been installed into your computer or windows.(Windows automatic update can create problems,to fix this problem follow this blog-Fix problems occur by windows automatic updates.)
  • The hard disk has a bad sector, specially a sector that includes windows boot files. 
You can fix this problem itself . Follow this instruction which will you to fix your rebooting problem.

Dell computer starts rebooting
Step1: Don’t open any program , open the “Run” box from the start menu or by pressing the windows key and “R”, then type in “shutdown –a” without the quotation marks. This tells the system to not reboot or shutdown in the event of a fatal system error.

Step2: if above step is not working, try to boot your system in safe mode by pressing F8.This will put the machine into a simple boot mode with no extra drivers then those needed to start the machine. If the problem happens in safe mode then system windows file may be corrupted and you need to reinstall windows.

Step3: Boot your computer with your windows CD, then select the Recovery Console option, after that use the CHKDSK command to recover the bad sector.(see also:How to Reboot a Dell Computer )

How to disable/stop windows security alert popups

Windows operating systems have a built in security center that monitors the activities or existence of Automatic Updates, Windows Firewall and antivirus (provided by third party). When one or more security component do not been installed, or disabled or turned off or not working, then windows security alert popup will highlight the section in yellow or red for warning and critical attention. It can really frustrate you when it occurs randomly, but it is a wake call for your computer security so that you can fix it.

So find here easy steps to turn-off windows security alert pop-ups -
Step 1: Open 'Administrator Tools' from 'Control panel'. (if you don't see it, double click on 'Performance and Maintenance' first)

Step 2: Now double click 'Services' and again double click on 'Security Center' and select 'properties' with right-click option.

Step 3: Now click on 'General' tab and change the setting from Automatic to 'Disabled'. (also find here how to stop Windows rebooting after automatic updates...)

It will permanently disable security center pop-ups forever and click on 'Stop' button at the bottom of the dialog window to stop security center immediately during current log on session.

It’s time to restart your computer and check the result. I hope it will work.

Note: After disable the Security Center, you won’t be any security warning again. But, by turning it off, your system may be expose to virus, malware and spyware threat too if your anti virus program is not functioning unknowingly or accidentally. So whenever you disable your windows security center, use high-quality virus removal software to keep your system safe.

Step 1: Go to 'Run' and open 'regedit.exe' and search the key:

'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Ratings'

Now delete this key with right click option.

Step 2: Go to 'Internet Explorer->Tools->Internet Options->Content' and disable content advisor here.

Fix conflicts between Mcafee & Internet Explorer

McAfee and Microsoft, both are the top products in computer world and well known by every computer user. Microsoft provides the complete system products, software’s and tools where as McAfee provides virus removal protection and complete security helps to computer softwares. So, both needs well compatibility to perform together.

But sometime, any Microsoft tool like Internet explorer may not well sync with McAfee, and its result is; blank McAfee windows, buffer overflow errors and the crashing of either one of the products or your operating system.(see also:How to Remove McAfee Products)

But we can fix these McAfee problems with internet explorer to avoid conflicts between them. So find here easy steps to avoid conflict problem between McAfee and Internet Explorer-

Step 1: First update your windows operating system and internet explorer .You can find the updates in internet explorer official website.

Step 2: Also update you McAfee with latest patches which you can find on 'Product Patches' page at McAfee official website.

Step 3: Now open product files folder and scroll down to either the McAfee or Internet Explorer folder.

Step 4: Now open the folder and search the '.exe' file…also find here how to add a trusted application in McAfee.

Step 5: After select the '.exe' file. Now right click on the '.exe' file and select the "Properties" option, and select the compatibility tab in the properties dialog box.

Step 6: Now check the 'Compatibility mode' check box and select the operating system you are using from the Compatibility mode drop-down list, and click on 'OK'.

Now in new windows operating system, you can use the Program Compatibility troubleshooter. Search for 'troubleshooter' and click on 'Troubleshooting'.

Now its time to restart your computer and check that McAfee is compatible with Internet explorer or not.
